Distribution of Clothes and School Bags to HIV/AIDS Affected Children at Desire Society, Mumbai

The Desire Society, established in 2004, has been promoting the well-being and health development of children affected by HIV/AIDS in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Vizag, and Noida. The children who are usually abandoned by one or both parents most of whom are sex workers or truck drivers face multiple challenges of disadvantaged socio-economic conditions; abuse; and a precarious health situation. In November 2021, Team SSM Mumbai had distributed educational material to the children at the Vashi center in Mumbai to celebrate Deepavali with them. This year too, on 17th September 2022, the team members collaborated with Unicare Emergency Equipment Pvt. Ltd. to provide school bags, T-shirts, and pants to the little ones who were overjoyed to receive these essential items. Ganesha Chaturthi Celebrated with Community of Slum Dwellers at Sai Baba Temple, Chembur

Team SSM Mumbai celebrated the auspicious festival of Ganesha Chaturthi with traditional fervor and great gusto with the community of slum dwellers residing near the Sai Baba Temple, Chembur on 3rd September 2022.   The community members had installed a majestic idol of Lord Ganesha in a beautifully decorated pandal near the temple on 31st August to mark the 10 days of festivities in honor of the god of beginnings, the remover of obstacles, and the lord of wisdom.   A special Ganesha aarati was conducted with a joint congregation of the community members and the SSM team members followed by the distribution of 100 meal trays to the faithful who had queued up for a glimpse of their favorite deity.   The simple yet nourishing meal of chole, pav, gulab jamuns, and pickle was followed up by sweet treats for the children: cream biscuits, bars of chocolate, and delectable modaks that are dearly loved by Lord Ganesha. Annadaanam Seva Offered to Caregivers of Patients at Chittaranjan Hospitals, Hazra

Team SSM Kolkata launched its 'Annadaanam Kolkata' seva on 21st August 2022 for the caregivers of patients at the Chittaranjan Seva Sadan and Shishu Sadan Hospital and the Chittaranjan National Institute of Cancer at Hazra, Kolkata.     The team members sourced freshly prepared, hot vegetable khichadi from the catering unit of the ISKCON given its excellent quality and taste. They served large spoons of this nourishing meal into meal boxes and offered them to the caretakers of patients outside the pediatric hospital and the cancer institute.   More than 200 meal boxes wound their way into the grateful hands of the caregivers whose sweet smiles of relief enthused the team members to extend this humble seva to several others who long for a simple meal to rejuvenate themselves while they care relentlessly for their loved ones in hospital. Weekend Annadaanam Sevas Usher in Comfort and Well-Being at Bengaluru

Team SSM Bengaluru began its weekend annadaanam sevas on Saturday, 21st August 2022 with the distribution of 200 boxes of vegetable pulao for the caregivers of patients at the St. John's Hospital.  The team members received the meal boxes from Adamya Chetana Foundation, a voluntary organization that supports the less privileged through the provision of mid-day meals. As the trolley carrying the meal boxes rolled through the corridors of the pediatric and general wards, several caregivers, particularly those who hail from far-flung villages and towns, found much  comfort in the simple meal while they tended to the well-being of their ailing loved ones. This spirit of comfort and well-being colored the Sunday special breakfast on 22nd August 2022 at the Vallabh Niketan Ashram. Provision of Monthly Dry Rations at Chandigarh Spinal Rehab Centre

Over the past 10 months, Team SSM Chandigarh has been supporting The Chandigarh Spinal Rehab Centre with the provision of dry rations for the benefit of patients and their caregivers.   This rehab centre provides healing and rehabilitation to patients who have suffered spinal cord injuries. Given the sustained need for treatment and its long duration, caregivers of patients require additional resources to ensure adequate nutritional support to their loved ones.     The team members handed over 60 litres of cooking oil, 50 kgs of sugar, 40 kgs of different lentils such as green gram and chickpeas, and 5 kgs of tea to the management team at the centre on 17th August 2022.    The generous and unflinching support of donors and other contributors has sustained this selfless seva and provided much succor to several families.   To support Team SSM Chandigarh in this endeavor, write to us at connect@satsang-foundation.org .

75th Independence Day Celebration at Eera Nenjam Old Age Home, Coimbatore

Team SSM Coimbatore celebrated the 75th Independence Day on 15 August 2022 with its dear friends at the Eera Nenjam Old Age Home in RS Puram.     The 80 inmates of this shelter home for senior citizens received a box of wheat laddus as they participated in this momentous celebration of nationhood.     The team members handed over common medicines such as multivitamin and calcium supplements, anti-acidity tablets, analgesics, and prescription medicines for those suffering from diabetes and hypertension. They also provided health drinks to support the nutritional needs of the inmates.     Each visit to this precious haven for the aged is characterized by loving exchanges between the team members and the inmates who look forward to spending their time with their younger friends.   To participate in such initiatives for senior citizens, contact us at connect@satsang-foundation.org .

Team SSM Kerala Provides Wheelchairs to the Differently Abled at Ernakulam

To me, service is a significant part of one's spiritual path . - Sri M This clarion call to offer selfless service was clearly expressed in Team SSM Kerala's seva of bequeathing mobility aids to the differently abled hailing from impoverished families with the intention of empowering them to become self- confident, find employment, and participate in community life. The team decided to celebrate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in collaboration with Samadrusti Kshamatha Vikas Evam Anusandan Mandal (SAKSHAM), a pan-India organization that provides mobility aids such as wheelchairs, white canes, and three wheeler vehicles to the differently abled.  On 14th August 2022, a public event was held at the Bhaskareeyam Convention Centre, Ernakulam to felicitate four beneficiaries with the donation of wheelchairs. Provision of Monthly Dry Rations to Mathru Abhaya Foundation, Hyderabad

The Mathru Abhaya Foundation houses 55 young boys and girls in separate homes and provides them food, shelter, medical care, and education. Constant support and assistance are therefore required throughout the year. As part of its monthly commitment to this orphanage, Team SSM Hyderabad supplied some of its larger grocery needs for the month of August. The team members handed over 150 kgs of rice, 15 litres of cooking oil, and 2 kgs of pepper on Saturday, 30th July 2022 to  Mr. Ramesh, the founder of the orphanage and a few young residents at the home for girls. Their faces lit up with huge smiles when Mr. Ramesh graciously accepted a couple of large packets of potato chips, a little token gift from one of the team members, along with the grocery items. Annadaanam at Howrah Railway Station, Kolkata

On 28th July 2022, Team SSM Kolkata offered annadaanam seva to the less privileged street dwellers who live around the Howrah Railway Station.   The team members distributed 135 hygienically packed meal boxes filled with jeera rice and dal fry to these hungry folks most of whom were children and women. Sunday Special Breakfast at Vallabh Niketan Ashram, Bengaluru

Sundays are filled with cheer and enthusiasm as the children of Vallabh Niketan Ashram meet their friends from Team SSM Bengaluru over a sumptuous breakfast every week. On 24 July 2022, the children queued up for set dosas, vegetable kurma, vadas, sambar, and chutney and sat down for a little prayer of thanksgiving before taking their meal. Friendly banter and shared smiles accompanied the meal as the youngsters regaled themselves with hearty helpings. Annadaanam Seva to Caregivers of Patients at St. John’s Hospital, Bengaluru

Since October 3, 2021 Team SSM Bengaluru has been serving fresh meals to the caregivers of patients on every alternate Sunday at the St. John's Hospital. The meals are prepared and packed into food grade boxes by Adamya Chetana Foundation, a voluntary organization that supports the less privileged. On Sunday, 24 July 2022, the team members welcomed yet another consignment of 200 boxes filled with a nutritious meal of tomato rice. They placed the boxes on a large trolley and wound their way through the serpentine maze of the out-patient department building to stop at the pediatric, psychiatric, pre-operative, post-operative, neonatal, and general wards. They lovingly handed out the meal boxes to the caregivers seated in the aisles and to those in the wards keeping a close vigil over their beloved children and family members.  It was truly a heart-rending and humbling experience as these beleaguered caregivers accepted the meal boxes with warm smiles and a sweet 'thank you' i

Saturday, 23 July 2002 witnessed the 28th week of blessed langar seva organized at the Malad Gurudwara. Team SSM Mumbai served a nourishing meal of pulao, chole, pickle, and gulab jamuns to 80 hungry souls. During the pangat or congregation, the team members welcome their guests, chant the name of Waheguru, the Wondrous Enlightener , and bow down reverentially as they serve them. Grace and gratitude flow endlessly as the recipients hold up their plates with both hands and express their relief at having had their first meal of the day.   For the team members this experience is always humbling as they see themselves in their less privileged brethren. Weekly Annadaanam Seva Continues at Sai Baba Temple, Chembur

Team SSM Mumbai set out to the Sai Baba Temple at Chembur on Saturday 23 July 2022 to offer the weekly annadaanam seva to the slum dwellers who live nearby. The seva began with a vibrant aarti  performed at the temple in the presence of these precious denizens and the team members alike. A filling meal of peas pulao, chole, pickle, and gulab jamuns , in hygienically packed trays was then shared with 100 people.  The children who had gathered there after school were supremely thrilled as they chattered away excitedly and beamed happily when they received a special treat of cream biscuits and chocolates with their meal. The women also expressed their satisfaction for having partaken of a full meal instead of the usual leftovers at home while the senior citizens wholeheartedly appreciated the tasty meal.
