Seva Utsav 2024: Excursion to Chandigarh Rock Garden marks Founder’s Day

Satsang Seva Mission (SSM) volunteers organized an enriching excursion to the Rock Garden, Chandigarh for students of Grades 10-12 from Government Senior Secondary School at Bargodam, Kalka on 9 November 2024 to mark Founder's Day, An exploration of the Bird Park, Sukhna Lake, and Rock Garden was followed by a pranayama session. The students also participated in an eco-quiz on sustainability and conservation, with the top four winners receiving prizes for their knowledge and enthusiasm. For the students who had never traveled outside Kalka before, this extraordinary experience left a lasting impression on their young minds. Seva Utsav 2024: Bringing comfort and care to the community at Chandigarh

In honor of Sri M's 75th birthday, Satsang Seva Mission (SSM) volunteers at Chandigarh organized two heartwarming events that brought comfort and care to the community. On 4 November 2024, volunteers hosted a nourishing langar seva at the PGI Hospital, serving over 700 patients and their families from a mobile unit. The traditional, wholesome meal brought a sense of relief and warmth to those enduring long vigils at the hospital, providing not just food, but hope and compassion. The spirit of selfless service found expression on 8 November when the volunteers offered a light meal and essential medicines to the residents of Senior Citizen Home, Sector 15. The visit culminated in a serene pranayama and meditation session, helping the residents find peace and relaxation while nurturing their well-being, uplifting spirits, and fostering unity. Seva Utsav 2022: Children of Government Secondary School Ramgarh Plant Trees and Pledge to Conserve Water

As the sun streamed through on a cool, winter morning at the Government Secondary School in Ramgarh, Chandigarh on 24th November 2022, Team SSM Chandigarh celebrated Founder's Day (6th November) with a tree plantation drive on the premises of the school. The initiatives of MyTree and Satsang Jal Seva Sangatan (SJSS) were woven together to sensitize the students about the spirit of maitri or loving friendship with trees and the importance of water conservation.  The students, teachers, principal, and SSM team members joined hands to plant 50 saplings of herbs such as tulsi, choti elaichi, ajwain, aloe vera, and lemon grass; and 10 saplings of fruit-bearing trees such as mango, guava, sapota, and jamun . The students then took a pledge to preserve water; use every single drop with mindfulness; and become Jal Sevaks , in service of Mother Earth's most precious resource. Seva Utsav 2022: Langar Seva Offered at Government Hospital and PGIMER, Chandigarh

Team SSM Chandigarh commemorated Sri M's birthday by offering langar seva at the Government Hospital, Sector 16 and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on 10th November 2022.     Stationed in a mobile bhandara truck of the Shree Mata Mansa Devi Bhandara Committee Charitable Trust, the team members served over 700 patients and their caregivers a wholesome meal of kadhi, rice, rotis, channa aloo curry, and halwa as prasad.     As the hungry queued up to partake of this special meal, the youngest team member, all of 6 years, melted everyone's hearts as she served them with great love and concern right through three hours of the entire langar seva.   The team members expressed their heartfelt gratitude for having been of service to their hungry brethren.   To support Team SSM Chandigarh in their initiatives, please write to us at connect@satsang-foundation.org .

Seva Utsav 2022: Igniting Young Minds with Gift of Knowledge at Government School, Ramgarh

In commemoration of Sri M's birthday, Team SSM Chandigarh visited the Government Senior Secondary School at Ramgarh, Chandigarh and interacted with the students of Grades 11 and 12 on 3rd November 2022.      While the parents of these youngsters have the wherewithal to provide the basic necessities, they are often unable to provide educational material that is beyond their spending ability. The team members therefore offered a set of Physics textbooks to the students to help them explore, learn, and assimilate the core concepts and put them into practice during their lab sessions under the able guidance of their teachers.   To support the initiatives of Team SSM Chandigarh, please write to us at connect@satsang-foundation.org .

Provision of Monthly Dry Rations at Chandigarh Spinal Rehab Centre

Over the past 10 months, Team SSM Chandigarh has been supporting The Chandigarh Spinal Rehab Centre with the provision of dry rations for the benefit of patients and their caregivers.   This rehab centre provides healing and rehabilitation to patients who have suffered spinal cord injuries. Given the sustained need for treatment and its long duration, caregivers of patients require additional resources to ensure adequate nutritional support to their loved ones.     The team members handed over 60 litres of cooking oil, 50 kgs of sugar, 40 kgs of different lentils such as green gram and chickpeas, and 5 kgs of tea to the management team at the centre on 17th August 2022.    The generous and unflinching support of donors and other contributors has sustained this selfless seva and provided much succor to several families.   To support Team SSM Chandigarh in this endeavor, write to us at connect@satsang-foundation.org .

Langar for Patients and their Attenders at PGI Hospital in Chandigarh, Punjab & Haryana

The members of Team SSM Chandigarh organized a langar or a community meal to commemorate the birth of Sri M on the 6th of November 2021 outside Gate 4 of the PGI Hospital. The langar comprised halwa , rice, and lentils. There was an endless stream of about 1500 people from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Besides the patients and their attenders, the nursing staff, daily wage workers, mendicants, autorickshaw drivers,  rickshaw pullers, and passers-by partook of this hearty meal.  The team was also able to serve about 200 people at the Gurudwara situated inside the PGI Hospital and a homeless family which resides on the hospital premises.

Distribution of Dry Rations at The Chandigarh Spinal Rehab Centre, Chandigarh

The Chandigarh  Spinal Rehab Centre provides free treatment to  underprivileged patients and their attenders. However, during the pandemic, with the paucity of donations, Ms. Nicky Kaur, the CEO of this centre, reached out to the Satsang Seva Mission team at Chandigarh for assistance with dry rations. The team swung into action and provided 120 litres of refined, cooking oil and 70 kgs of sugar. Team SSM Chandigarh was extremely grateful that it was able to lend a hand in the provision of meals to the patients and their attenders.
