Spoken English classes launched at Namma Mane, Bengaluru

Team SSM Bengaluru launched Spoken English classes in the first week of July  at Namma Mane, a shelter home for 45 young girls aged between 5 and 18 years.

Every Saturday, two volunteers engage the enthusiastic youngsters with short conversations and introduce various topics to improve their vocabulary. Divided into two age-based groups, from 5 to 12 years and 12 years and above, the sessions are structured around the linguistic abilities and requirements of each age group with the intention of enhancing their communication skills in English.

Fundamental grammatical structures such as nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs are conceptualized with concrete examples from daily life. The youngsters are subsequently encouraged to frame simple sentences based on these concepts. Pictorial charts on the parts of the body, the world of Nature, and other themes serve as essential visual aids to vocabulary-building exercises. The youngsters are also supported in the verbal expression of emotions with the use of adjectives. Short, engaging Q&A sessions ensure active participation of the youngsters as they learn to overcome their inhibitions and use the English language confidently.
