Navratri Special: Food for the Body, Mind, and Soul Offered to the Homeless at Yamuna Pushta Shelter, Delhi-NCR

Nar Seva Narayan Seva - Service to Mankind is Service to God

                                                                                            - Swami Vivekananda

On 2nd October 2022, the 7th day of Navaratri, Teams SSM Delhi-NCR and Bharat Yoga Vidya Kendra (BYVK), Delhi put their minds and hearts together and exemplified this lofty exhortation of Swami Vivekananda through a unique annadaanam seva offered to 1500 homeless people at the Yamuna Pushta Shelter.

As the people gathered under the rich, pink canopies set up in the shade of the tree-lined avenue, the BYVK Delhi team members first interacted with them. Demonstrations of techniques which promote breath awareness to help calm the mind; and Sheetkari and Suryabhedana Pranayamas which help regulate the thermostatic levels in the body during extreme weather conditions followed. Finally, the Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama to boost immunity was demonstrated. The participants were thrilled to learn and practice these special techniques.

After this invigorating session for the mind and soul, the participants were invited to form small groups and partake of a freshly-prepared, nourishing meal of  puris, potato curry, pumpkin curry, chilli pickle, and halwa.  A refreshing glass of cool Roohafza soothed their parched throats while apples and bananas were offered to those who were observing the Navaratri fast.

As the team members lovingly served the entire gathering, the recipients appreciated the quality and taste of the food, and thanked them for their love and concern.
